Subject to change

Robbinsville – When Graham County Schools announced its return-to-school plan on July 27, Superintendent Angie Knight stressed that the schedule could be altered.

Exactly one week later, the system did just that.

Citing an overwhelming number of “final commitments” from students expressing a desire to return to in-person learning,  Robbinsville High School will switch to an alternating schedule, rather than the four-day, in-person attendance the original plan called for.

Under this plan, “Cohort A” (students with last names A-L) will attend school on campus Mondays and Thursday, while “Cohort B” (last names M-Z) will have face-to-face instruction Tuesdays and Fridays. This is the schedule already set for grades 4-8.

Students in grades K-3 will still attend Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The entire school system will have a mandatory remote-learning day on Wednesdays, allowing for extra cleaning at each institution.

“Graham County Schools is trying to balance the health and  safety of all of our students/staff with a sound, rigorous education for all of our students,” a statement released Monday on Facebook reads. “Our return-to-school strategy will have to be flexible as we navigate through the year.

“We appreciate those of you who understand that this is an ever-changing process, and that we are reassessing weekly to offer the best education possible.”

The statement went on to request that any parents with questions should call the child’s respective school, rather than speculate or ask questions through Facebook:

* Robbinsville Elementary: 479-9850.

* Robbinsville Middle: 479-9840.

* Robbinsville High: 479-9830.
