Robbinsville High senior receives scholarship
Raleigh – After months of anticipation, N.C. State University named 41 students to its 2024-25 class of Park Scholars.
One of the lucky recipients was Robbinsville High School valedictorian Karlyn Breez Matheson, who will enjoy the perks of a scholarship valued at up to $111,000 and covers all tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, plus travel and personal expenses.
“I am so grateful to be a Park Scholar. It is an amazing opportunity,” Matheson said. “It’s something that I have worked for throughout my academic career, and it will provide me with the support to be successful over the next four years.”
The scholarship also opens Matheson up to opportunities for grants for research projects, service activities and conference in both the United States and abroad. Matheson will be majoring in biomedical engineering.
“It’s such an honor to have been chosen, and I am beyond excited to attend NCSU,” Matheson said.
The daughter of David and Kim Matheson, Karlyn is vice president of HOSA, a member of the Robbinsville High student council, the Region 8 representative on the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council and captain of the Lady Knights’ volleyball team.
“I also want to get a shoutout to my teachers and counselors, for guiding and advising me throughout high school,” Matheson added. “The Robbinsville High School faculty and staff is the best, and I am so thankful for them.
“I would also like to thank my parents for their support. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
