It was recently announced by Franklin Shook, president of the Nantahala Regional Libraries system, that September will hold multiple involvements for the surrounding libraries.
September is recognized by the American Library Association as “Library Card Sign-Up Month.” Throughout the month, new, free library cards are offered for those who have them. A social media contest for the oldest library card will also be held. The reward for the winner has been revealed to be a Visa gift card.
Also announced is that the regional library system will be using a new cataloging system called “NC Cardinal.” This system will allow the reader to check out books statewide.
However, this upgrade will not be active until the spring of 2022, due to the system having to re-barcode each individual book.
