Anderson named new librarian

Robbinsville – Instilling the love of reading and fostering the pursuit of knowledge is one of the many responsibilities of a county librarian.  The library is a place where everyone is welcome to gather for social interaction, cultural exchange, community connections, knowledge and instruction.

Life well spent

Robbinsville – As every great story must come to an end, county librarian Mary Griffin’s final chapter concluded Aug. 22.

’Tis the season of giving … tree

Robbinsville – The Graham County Public Library is bringing holiday cheer with the annual Giving Tree. Near the entrance of the library is a green Christmas tree filled with ornaments – not bulbs or snowflakes, but slips of paper, with gifts listed for Graham County senior citizens.

Nantahala Regional Library card will allow statewide access

Robbinsville – It’s a pesky little task, but you’re going to want to renew your library card. Doing so will open up a vast collection of publications from libraries across North Carolina. Nantahala Regional Library will soon begin using a new Integrated Library System to manage its collection.

New details on butterfly garden revealed

Robbinsville – The Graham County Travel & Tourism board held a meeting Nov. 4. Friends of the Library president Maegan Shoemaker was invited to discuss funding for the local butterfly garden project, which will be located at the Graham County Public Library.

Library card sign-ups underway

It was recently announced by Franklin Shook, president of the Nantahala Regional Libraries system, that September will hold multiple involvements for the surrounding libraries.  September is recognized by the American Library Association as “Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Singing bowls bring rest, relaxation to everyone

Robbinsville – In a darkened, back room of the Graham County Public Library, a dozen people lay on the carpet and lounged in chairs as Stecoah resident Mardie Drolshagen made her collection of crystal bowls sing.

Arson detection team visits Graham library

Robbinsville – A very special guest visited the Graham County Public Library on Monday, to help educate members of the 4-H Club during their first meeting of the year.  This visitor detects chemicals from two miles away, helps put arsonists in jail and once proved the FBI wrong.

County library celebrates year with open house

Robbinsville – The Graham County Public Library threw an open house Dec. 19, to mark the end of another year of growth. Patrons enjoyed an afternoon buffet of snacks, while students of the Mountain Music Program provided musical accompaniment on their guitars.
