Local HOSA students advance to state finals

Sylva – The Health Occupational Students of America club at Robbinsville High School traveled to Southwestern Community College on Friday, Nov. 15, to compete in the Regional Leadership Competition. 

Robbinsville’s HOSA club continues to increase their wins each year and this year was no different. Six students had first-place finishes including Alexis McKinney in Medical Law, Ashlyn Roberson in Medical Assisting, Emma Nichols and Tayla Millsaps in Forensic Science, Leah Cody in Physical Therapy and Lexy Daniels in Extemporaneous Writing. 

Bryce Teesateskie won second place in Human Growth and Development. Third-place finalists were Colby Lovin and Brock Adams – competing in Health Career Display – Gabby Hooper in Extemporaneous Writing and Karlyn Matheson in Job Seeking Skills. 

Robbinsville also had several fourth-place finishers, including Dalson Jordan and Cody Cline in CPR/First Aid, Hazel Whittle in Human Growth and Development and Sarah Gibby, Brook Turpin, Destiny Aldridge and Halee Anderson in the HOSA Bowl. 

Fifth-place winners were Karcee Dooley in Nurse Aide and Lindsey Britain, Bethany Collins and Delaney Hooper in Creative Problem Solving. 

Members of the club will next travel to Charlotte for the state competition, which will take place April 1-4.
