Murphy – Men, women and teens are invited to participate in a Bible Study based on the book "Exposing the Spiritual Roots of Disease" – plus its study guide, compiled by Dr. Henry W. Wright.
The subtitle of both books is “Powerful Answers to your Questions about Healing and Disease Prevention.”
Starting Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, Debbie Garrison will be teaching two, 90-minute classes at Shepherd of the Mountains Church (68 Fairfax Dr., Murphy). The 4 p.m., and 7 p.m., classes will continue for 15 weeks.
The first 50 people who pre-register for the class will receive Wright's book, as well as the study guide. Wright discovered through his 35 years of ministry that sometimes, understanding the "Spiritual Roots of Disease" leads to both complete spiritual and physical healing. Approximately 80% of all diseases are pronounced by doctors as “no known cause” in the the Physicians Desk Reference.
But the Physicians Desk Reference always lists personality characteristics that doctors believe contribute to each of those diseases, like anger, fear, anxiety, stress, addictions, self-hate, unforgiveness and perfectionism. Wright recognized that God’s Word states that each of those “personality characteristics” is a sin.
The phrase "a broken spirit dries up the bones" is a metaphor found in Proverbs 17:22, emphasizing the connection between a person's emotional and spiritual state and their physical health. In this verse, a "broken spirit" refers to a state of deep despair or hopelessness, often resulting from prolonged suffering or sin; and the "bones" symbolize the core of one's physical being, representing strength and vitality. It is no coincidence that healthy bone marrow is essential to a healthy immune system.
“The purpose of sin is not just to make you feel bad," Wright said. "These sin issues are planned events by the enemy. They are destructive to you, your relationships, and Father God’s plan for your life.”
This class is all about sanctification, spiritual warfare and healing through the spirit-soul-body connection.
