Madison Cawthorn
Robbinsville – Two groups have endorsed candidates in the race for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District against incumbent Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.-11).
The N.C. Police Benevolent Association endorsed Republican candidate Chuck Edwards.
The group held a series of interviews for candidates seeking election for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.
“During the interview process, Chuck Edwards demonstrated why his experience and values make him uniquely qualified to represent the voters of his district in Washington,” the group said in a news release. “Edwards also demonstrated to the North Carolina PBA that he is committed to making strong, effective law enforcement a priority in his campaign. That is why the NCPBA is proud to announce their support by endorsing Chuck Edwards for Congress.”
David Rose, who serves as the association’s president, said, “We are proud to endorse Chuck Edwards for Congress. He has a proven track record as a business owner, community leader and public servant. During his time in the North Carolina Senate, he has been a fierce advocate against those that would want to defund the police or otherwise erode their abilities to serve the public. In Congress, he will continue this advocacy and give the citizens of western North Carolina a steady and reasonable voice. A vote for Chuck Edwards is a vote for the men and women of law enforcement and the citizens they serve.”
The N.C. Police Benevolent Association is a division of the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, Inc., a non-profit professional organization dedicated to improving the law enforcement profession. It is the largest law enforcement association in North Carolina. Members are full-time or retired employees of federal, state, county and municipal law enforcement and correctional agencies in North Carolina.
Funded by membership dues and citizen contributions, the association provides legal, legislative, disciplinary, and other representation to member officers as well as an accidental death benefit to members’ beneficiaries.
The North Carolina PBA is active in the political process and has supported and sponsored more law enforcement legislation than all other law enforcement groups combined.
The American Muckrakers (also known as FireMadison.com) endorsed Democrat candidate Katie Dean for the Democrat nomination after an earlier endorsement of Republican candidate Wendy Nevarez for the Republican nomination.
“It often seems that Democrats and Republicans have very little in common,” the group said in a news release. “In that sense, you can call Madison Cawthorn a uniter. There are 13 challengers for his position – six Democrats and seven Republicans – and they are in unanimous agreement that Madison Cawthorn doesn’t belong in Congress and North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District deserves someone who will show up for work, not make voters look like a bunch
of idiots, and put the needs of Western North Carolinians at the head of the queue.”
The group said Dean is best qualified for the nomination and has the best chance of winning in November.
“Unlike Madison Cawthorn, Katie’s business experience doesn’t just exist on paper. She and her husband Zach own and operate an auto service shop and they know what it takes to run a small business in today’s environment. … Madison Cawthorn never had to work for a living and, as he has said, makes his money off his multimillion-dollar Wall Street portfolio. Katie Dean makes her money the old fashion way … she works to earn it.”
