Alarka – A local man walking on an exit ramp in Swain County on the evening of April 13 was struck and killed by a vehicle.
Brian Abram Fox, 49, of Atoah, was walking on the Exit 64 off-ramp on U.S. 74 West after dark when he was struck by a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, which was being operated by Chad Hampton Andrews, 49, of Bryson City.
Medical examiner Brandon Wiggins pronounced Fox dead at the scene.
Trooper Corey Greene with the N.C. Highway Patrol said Fox was wearing dark clothing and simply stepped into the roadway, causing the collision. Greene added that it was unknown why Fox was walking along the ramp.
Greene also said Andrews will not be charged in the accident.
