Ben Davis
Robbinsville – Ben Davis has been named the Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year for North Carolina by the National Association of Biology Teachers.
An instructor at Robbinsville High School, Davis joins an elite group of teachers from each of the 50 states, plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Canada and overseas territories. Each selected one outstanding educator to represent them for the 2024-25 school year.
The process of applying for consideration was extensive, including a personal statement from Davis, his resume, his philosophy on “Why Teaching Biology is Important” and a 30-minute video showing a sample of him teaching a lesson.
Davis admitted that his biology classes are his favorite subject to teach, with lots of experiments and the opportunity to let students go outside and learn in nature.
“In biology, the kids get to learn about plants and animals; things they see in everyday life,” Davis explained. “My students get to go study things outside that students in the cities don’t have the opportunity to study.”
Davis will travel to St. Louis, Mo., in October to attend an awards luncheon honoring recipients. He feels very honored and appreciative to receive such a prestigious award.
“There are a lot of excellent biology teachers in North Carolina and I am very happy to receive this award,” he said.
