Robbinsville – A hearing for Graham County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matthew Cox will take place on June 30 in Swain County, after Superior Court Judge William Coward found nothing exculpatory when reviewing his file on May 6 in Graham County.
Cox is under scrutiny due to a possible unlawful arrest following a 2019 chase, and is currently under a federal Giglio letter.
A second scrutinized law enforcement officer former Graham Deputy Devin Viar had his appearance in court rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 5.
Viar was scheduled to appear for an alleged statutory rape.
Convictions
A local woman will also serve 90 days in the Graham County Jail for probation violation.
Coward sentenced Summer Teesateskie, after hearing testimony from her regarding her plans to get a job at the Fontana Village Resort through the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program. However, after hearing her testimony and that of parole officers, Coward decided that she would remain in jail for the time being.
Teesateskie has been arrested several times in the past few months after repeatedly missing probation appointments and traveling across state lines to a methadone clinic in Blairsville, Ga. without notifying her probation officer. She also admitted to using meth while on probation.
She will be required to attend and complete any rehabilitation programs offered in the jail.
“I want you to get up and go to those classes,” Coward said.
Travis W. Orr – who is accused of two counts of larceny after breaking and entering, conspiracy to commit felony, larceny after breaking and entering, probation violation and two counts of breaking and entering – received 90 days for probation violation.
Alex Kane Dutcher – who has been arrested for assault, larceny and other charges – did not show up to court. A warrant was issued for his arrest, with a bond of $10,000.
