Robbinsville High School was unable to have its annual sports awards banquet.
Instead, a recently released YouTube video appeared on the school’s Digital Media page, with athletic director Dee Walsh recognizing the 2019-20 award winners.
Walsh reminded viewers that Robbinsville High won three separate Smoky Mountain Conference championships during the school year: volleyball (advanced to fourth round of 1A state playoffs), football (won the program’s 14th state title) and wrestling (two individual state champions, Kyle Fink and Nathan Fisher).
He also noted that the Lady Knights’ basketball team won 23 games and advanced to the second round of the 1A state playoffs. The softball team was “confident” of a repeat conference championship, and both the baseball and track programs were on the rise before the spring sports season was cut short on March 13.
“I would like to thank Graham County. Because of what you do, and your support for our athletic programs, that is the reason that we have so much success,” Walsh said. “We cannot thank this community enough for all the physical – and especially the financial – support that you give us.”
