Heavy winds down power lines, cause wildfires

Tallulah – Windy conditions, low humidity and dense underbrush all combined to make it difficult to control a large brush fire that started around 12:40 p.m. March 30. Firefighters with both the N.C. and U.S.

Robbinsville – Finally. Entering Tuesday’s home game against Cherokee, the Robbinsville varsity baseball team was winless. In 5-of-their-first-6 games, the Black Knights had lost by eight or more runs and opponents had outscored Robbinsville 84-15.

Robbinsville – Even though March 23’s home appointment with Swain County was rained out, it seems that no one – beyond Mother Nature – can dampen the Lady Knights.

Downed power lines spark brush fires

Snowbird – A U.S. Forest Service crew discovered a brush fire burning shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Local firefighters from both the U.S. and N.C. forest services responded to the fire burning on Old Santeetlah Road.

Hiker injured on Yellow Creek Falls

Tapoco – The Graham County 911 Center received a call around 1:25 p.m. Saturday that a 65-year-old male had fallen off the Yellow Creek Falls Trail, located off U.S. 129 North. The caller also advised that the man would need to be carried out.
