Common Sense Authoritarians

The clearest path to a tyrannical government is restricting the ownership of weapons by the populace.

Background checks, red flag laws and the other “common sense” gun laws are bad laws. They all serve the purpose of disarming the people and taking away their power.

In reality, these laws only serve to disarm law abiding citizens.

It is clear that those who believe in common sense gun measures have no common sense about guns. We have talk show hosts like Joy Behar suggesting that cops should shoot into the air in the middle of cities. How’s that for common sense?

Joe Biden has recommended shooting suspects in the leg instead of center mass. Even more common sense.

It makes one wonder if any of these people have ever been through a hunter’s safety course, a concealed carry course or any type of gun training. It seems abundantly clear that the leaders who speak the loudest about common sense gun control have no common sense at all.

They have no clue about gun safety, no knowledge about firearm operation and no familiarity with the current process required to purchase weapons. This being the case – and it certainly is – why do they seem so certain that they know how to handle the issue? It’s because the issue being addressed is one they are familiar with.

The issue before us is not an issue about hunting. It’s not an issue about public health. It isn’t about mass shootings, school shootings, suicides or any other claim being made.

It’s about power.

In America, the power was designed to rest with the people. This was accomplished by having a well-armed populace who could form a militia if needed and resist unjust laws and tyrannical edicts.

Joe Biden is promising to get weapons of war off of our streets. However, he doesn’t intend on removing weapons of war from the standing armies of the government. See Capitol Hill for evidence.

So, it would be more accurate to say that he only intends to remove weapons from civilians on the streets. More accurate still to say that he intends to remove all power and opposition from civilians on the streets. This will be done by continuing the background checks, introducing red flag laws and making citizens register their weapons. That is the goal of all gun legislation.

I hope to never use a firearm to defend myself from a thief, a killer or a political leader. I do not look forward to a day that this would be necessary.

However, common sense tells me that the day my weapons are taken is the day that I will need them the most.

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every country in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops” (Noah Webster, 1787).
