What kind of editor would I be if I didn’t pen a list of New Year’s resolutions?
Readers have came to expect that whoever the Grand Poobah of a newspaper is when the year comes to a close should forecast the year ahead and make a list (though oddly, we do not check this list twice) of changes they hope to make. That’s a lot of pressure, but it’s almost a pre-requisite.
Alas, we have also reached the end of the 2010s, and I have the dubious distinction of holding The Graham Star’s reins as we enter the (roaring?) 2020s. So instead of naming what I plan to do better moving forward, how about what the Star will work on?
* Better news coverage. This seems like a gimme – given that we are, after all, a NEWSpaper – but I continually sit at my desk and discover events and happenings that we’ve missed. While with our resources we aren’t able to get to everything, what we have is fully capable.
* Increase our presence in the community. We are the only show in town when it comes to media. There is no local radio station, online news site nor television station. You want news? Buy a Graham Star. We have started a push to get our work into more locations, but there’s so much more ground still left to cover.
* Mend relationships. I have heard your concerns and suggestions. Just know that as long as I am here, the door is always open to express yourself. We’re here to work with and be a positive force in the community; let’s chat.
* Continue to provide a product that you deserve. We have the staff in place to deliver the best coverage of Graham County. With the quality writing of Staff Writer Robbi Pounds, the photography work of Art Miller and Byron Housley, plus my subtle contributions to the cause, you can expect the bar to be raised even more than it already has.
Thanks for your continued support. We look forward to ringing in the new decade with you.
