Plane crash sites dot landscape

Over the years, Graham County has experienced a number of plane crashes – mostly single-engine, privately-owned aircraft, but also three military aircraft.  There are a dozen or more crash sites in and near Graham County.

Crossing off another “bucket list” item

When your 75th birthday approaches, your bucket list should be getting shorter. “Wanna-do’s” and “have-to-do’s” should be crossed off as they are completed, or as your capability diminishes. For instance, a motorcycle trip to Alaska was crossed off … because I no longer have a motorcycle.

Neglecting God’s creation

“The Earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). This past week – as I drove on Tallulah Road – I marveled at the beauty of God’s creation. I wanted others to be able to see the trees, mountains and wonderful colors of the leaves.

Swan stories

The John Swan family consisting of John, his wife and eight children were early settlers in  Graham County having traveled here from Pennsylvania in 1890, and eventually settling in what is now known as Swan Meadows in the Wolf Laurel section of Big Santeetlah Creek.

“Great is Thy faithfulness, Unto Me”

One of my favorite Christian hymns is Thomas O. Chishom’s, “Great is Thy Faithfulness,” written in 1923 as a testimony to God’s blessings in his life.  Some hymns are born out of pain of the human condition.

Inflation is back

The economics of inflation was quite simple back when I was studying at the University of Florida.  When supplies were short and demand was great, prices went up. When supplies were abundant and demand was low, prices went down.

Miranda Millsaps born into a love of music

As far back as Miranda “Mandy” Seagle – now Millsaps – can remember she has loved music and singing.   Her father Danny Seagle played with a band called “The Toy Factory” which included some members of the Marshall Tucker Band.

Why do the children leave?

As the alcohol debate continues in our county, the same arguments are expounded, ad nauseum.  Some wondered why I did not write an article opposing the legal sale of alcohol; some wanted to know why I didn’t write an article in support of it; and some wanted to tell me what to write.

Prayer needed for elected officials

I was once at a community meeting where the district congressman was present. There was a meal and I was asked the say the blessing.  As I thanked the Lord for the food, I also prayed for the congressman. Afterwards, a person came to me and thanked me for praying for the congressman.
