Lady Knights ground Rockets, squash Wildcats
Robbinsville – Across the span of eight innings and two games Friday, Andrews had three hits.
The Lady Knights had 21.
Robbinsville's potent offense was on full display amid a league doubleheader with the Lady Wildcats, as the Knights handed the visitors a pair of 15-0 and 17-0 defeats on Judy Nichols Memorial Field.
Freshman hurler Ella Nelms tossed her fourth no-no of the season for Robbinsville (9-0, 6-0) in Game 1, striking out seven of the nine batters she faced.
Though Andrews (0-5, 0-5) committed six infractions, the Lady Knights still brought the heavy alloy to the plate. Of note, Khaygen Buchanan went 3-for-3 and posted three RBIs; while Kynadee Spencer was 2-for-2, with two driven in. Nelms aided her own cause inside the circle by going 2-for-3, as well.
Loxley Burke doubled and drove in a whopping five runs for Robbinsville in Game 2, while Anna Williams tripled. Daphne Barlow also hit a two-bagger, while Natalee Myers posted a 2-for-2 afternoon at the plate and had two RBIs.
Nelms posted eight strikeouts in four innings of work, while Spencer finished the job in the fifth by striking out the side.
In addition to doubling, Barlow homered in a 9-2 rout of the A.C. Reynolds Lady Rockets on March 19. Dreylee Webster also doubled, while Spencer swiped two bases. Nelms struck out 10 in the game, while Suri Watty made her season debut inside the circle for the seventh.
A.C. Reynolds (3-5) managed to end Robbinsville's shutout streak against opponents in the final frame, but the rally attempt came too late.
Nelms (9-0) has already fanned 86 batters in her first nine games at the varsity level, averaging 9.6 per game as a result.
