Robbinsville – Summit Charter and Highlands simply had no answer for the Lady Knights in recent volleyball action.
A trip to Cashiers on Aug. 21 and a home match Tuesday both concluded in the same manner: respective sweeps of the Lady Bears and Lady Highlanders, for both the JV and varsity Robbinsville squads.
Robbinsville (5-1) needed a moment to kick into first gear against Highlands (0-7), which startled the hosts Tuesday after sprinting to a 6-1 lead in set one. The Knights promptly went on a 12-2 run after regaining their composure and never looked back, holding off a late charge to seize the segment 23-25.
With Ryn Hooper serving to begin set two, Robbinsville opened up a quick 8-0 advantage. A service error halted the proceedings, but the Lady Knights recouped and found themselves ahead 1-13 minutes later. The segment was well in hand from that point forward – as was the match – with the Knights going on to finish off the Highlanders 9-25, 18-25.
The newest school in the Little Smoky Mountain Conference presented a formidable challenge in the first two sets Aug. 21, but Robbinsville knocked off Summit Charter (0-6): 26-24, 25-19, 25-15.
The JV Lady Knights (5-0) continued their perfect run by defeating the Lady Bears 25-13, 25-11 on Aug. 21 and Highlands 20-25, 25-27 on Tuesday.
