Car crash leaves two injured

Mill Creek – A two-vehicle accident Friday on Tallulah Road resulted in two drivers being transported to area hospitals. Around 3:28 p.m., Anahi Aguilar of Andrews was traveling north on U.S. 129, near the intersection of Lower Mill Creek Road.

Andrews man rescued from river

Yellow Creek – Graham County Fire and Rescue members and others were called out to perform a swiftwater rescue on the Cheoah River around 7:45 p.m., on May 13, when 911 dispatchers received word of a car in the water roughly three miles south of Tapoco Lodge on U.S. 129.

Send down the rain

A heavy lack of rainfall in the area has wreaked havoc on conditions outdoors, which has sparked a pair of unrelated fires – one planned, one not – and the implementation of an outdoor burn ban. The North Carolina Forest Service issued a ban for a 14-county area, which went into effect at 5 p.m.

Andrews-based air ambulance crashes in Macon County

Franklin – Four people survived when an air ambulance en route from Murphy to Asheville crashed in Macon County about 7 p.m. Thursday. Investigators were on scene Friday following the crash of Life Force 6, a medical helicopter based at Western Carolina Regional Airport near Andrews.

Robert Alexander Hamilton, 59 of Andrews, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 12, 2022, surrounded by his family. Robert was born in Wilmington, Del. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he lived in Columbus, Ohio before moving to Andrews, N.C.

Allison Renée Hamilton, 60 of Andrews, N.C., passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022. She was born in Columbus, Ga. to Betty Jane Swords Horne and the late Joe Allen Horne. Allison had worked as a x-ray tech for District Memorial and Murphy Medical Center.

Lawrence Edwin “Eddie” West, 91 of Three Forks, Mont., passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022. He was the son of Bruce and Nina Ensley West, of Andrews, N.C. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife, Iris Jeannette Gladden West, of Three Forks, Mont.
