Robbinsville flooded with water improvements

Robbinsville – Work is in the immediate pipeline to enhance multiple segments of the town’s water and sewer network. How immediate? Dirt will be lifted as soon as Monday, March 10, on an overhaul off Old Sweetwater Road to replace 4,000 lineal feet of 6-inch pipe and 300 feet of 2-inch water lines.

Local woman’s death still under investigation

Robbinsville – It has been more than two years since the lifeless body of 27-year-old Carley Dunn Walls was discovered around 9 a.m. Feb. 5, 2023.  While no arrests have been made in connection with her death, that does not mean the Graham County Sheriff’s Office has given up.

County pivots on justice center site

Robbinsville – Monday’s special commissioner meeting left those in attendance with one thing perfectly clear: though where the Graham County Justice Center will be built is back up in the air, the structure will definitively not be placed off P & J Road.

Man killed in RV fire

Bear Creek – Authorities are still trying to determine what caused an RV to become engulfed in a midday fire Jan. 29 and claim the life of a local man. The body of 71-year-old Lindell Howard Hensley was found inside the structure after firefighters with Graham County Fire and Rescue and the N.C.

Animal officer tabled

Robbinsville – Despite plans to appoint a new animal control officer at Tuesday’s meeting, the Graham County Board of Commissioners opted to table the discussions until more negotiations could be hammered out.

New foundation offers ‘hope’ for those in need

Robbinsville – As the cold winds of winter usher in snow and bitter cold, many residents of Graham County need a safe, warm place to sleep and a nutritious meal to help them survive the cold.  The Reigniting Hope Foundation provides just that.

Fire, rescue combine forces

The Graham County Rescue Squad and Graham County Fire Department will soon become a single unit.  Commander Jeff Millsaps announced plans for the merger at the squad’s December meeting.
