Gunshot to head killed suspect in 2021 chase

Tallulah – A gunshot wound to the head proved fatal for a Dickson, Tenn., resident after a high-speed 2021 chase, according to the autopsy. The Graham Star just received the results from a June 21, 2021 autopsy conducted on 31-year-old Mickey Ray Rice last week.

Snowbird community complex dedicated

Snowbird – Members of the Snowbird community of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians have long considered themselves an afterthought among the tribe, receiving just scraps and crumbs – compared to money and effort in Cherokee and elsewhere in western North Carolina.

Ribbon cutting planned for new community center

Snowbird  – Workers in Graham County on Tuesday were putting the finishing touches on the new Jacob Cornsilk Community Center in the Snowbird community, preparing for a ribbon cutting that is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday.

Snowbird Cherokee share customs, traditions during annual event

Snowbird – During the Trail of Tears – when many Snowbird Cherokee in Graham County were forcibly evicted from their land to make way for European settlers, starting in the 1830s – some escaped into the wilds.

‘Demo the Silos’ aimed at bridging gaps

Robbinsville – Grace Place serves 9-out-of-10 people who are experiencing food insecurity in Graham County, but despite the important service it provides, Grace Place itself experiences its own insecurity in the form of funding.

Cawthorn loses NC-11 bid

Beleaguered U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn lost his bid for re-election in Tuesday’s primary elections, losing to State Sen. Chuck Edwards. Edwards will go up against Democrat Jasmine Beach-Ferrara and Libertarian David Coatney in the November general election on Nov. 8.
