Robbinsville – Graham County Travel & Tourism is partnering with its counterpart in Monroe County, Tenn., to promote fall-season sightseeing on the Cherohala Skyway.

Motorists can stop at visitor centers in Robbinsville and Tellico Plains, Tenn., to pick up a brochure on one end of the Skyway, then stop at the visitor center at the other end and receive a commemorative refrigerator magnet.

The program, called “Your Road to Fall,” has been held annually for several years.

Trail venture

Graham County Travel & Tourism has been thinking outside the box in finding ways to enhance tourism in the county.

It is partnering with the National Forest Service in developing a nature trail on the south shore of Lake Santeetlah and using its own funds to ensure the trail is maintained.

That partnership will be continuing on to the Cherohala Skyway, where scenic overlooks will be cleared of brush to enhance the views and new informational signage will be installed.

“We proved to the Forest Service that we could carry out a commitment,” Travel & Tourism Executive Director Daniel Allison told the Travel & Tourism Board of Directors at its Oct. 6 meeting.
