Operation Stop Arm promotes school traffic safety

Robbinsville – Operation Stop Arm, a N.C. State Highway Patrol campaign to increase awareness of the dangers of ignoring school bus stop arms, increased traffic patrols in school zones, around school buses and at school bus stops Monday. The initiative lasts until Friday.

Cherokee – A pair of touchdowns on kickoff returns padded another dominant night of Black Knights football. Fresh off a bye week, Robbinsville (8-0, 3-0) traveled to Cherokee (2-7, 1-3) for the resumption of Smoky Mountain Conference play Friday night.

Murphy – Any questions that arose over who the true Smoky Mountain Conference regular-season champion was – Robbinsville and Murphy both tied for first place, sharing the distinction – were answered Wednesday night.

Robbinsville – “Ever” is a long time.  But the Robbinsville High School Lady Knights have set the new standard for that word, as the Lady Knights have already clinched their first-ever Smoky Mountain Conference title and their best win/loss record. Ever.

Color Run raises $500

Robbinsville – Robbinsville Middle School hosted the first annual Color Run on Saturday, Oct. 5.   The staff was excited about the turnout for the first-ever fun run hosted by the middle school, with about 65 people that participated.

Robbinsville – The Robbinsville United Methodist recently won a $250 Fresh Expressions grant to help the congregation support hikers on the Appalachian Trail.  Pastor Eric Reece and church members such as Marcia and David Davies have been helping AT through-hikers for more than four years now.

Murphy – Round two went to Murphy. After breaking a four-year losing streak to the Lady Bulldogs earlier this season, Robbinsville (16-2) traveled to Cherokee County on Oct. 3 for the rematch, but fell in four sets to the defending Smoky Mountain Conference champions.
