DSS grappling with court date issues

Robbinsville – Graham County – as well as others in the N.C. Parent of Social Services, District 30 – are contending with a larger than average number of children in the foster care system and a lower number of court days per month.

Protocols put in place by the Graham County Department of Social Services are ensuring that the entity can still serve the community’s needs. The department’s board met via teleconference April 14.

Robbinsville – Shannon Eller has began working as a part-time, foster care case-worker, according to an announcement made during Dec. 10’s Graham County Department of Social Services Board of Directors meeting.

Budget impasse impacts Medicaid

Raleigh – N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy Cohen recently warned that her office “can’t make a February start date” for Medicaid transformation “without a state budget in place.” As of Friday, the state legislature was still at a budget impasse.

Foster not only option

Not everyone who wants to help foster children is able to offer a home to those in need, but there are many other ways to support foster children and foster families.  For those would would qualify to foster but feel themselves unable to do so full-time, respite care may be an option.

Child Support Services numbers on the rise

Robbinsville – Graham County DSS Director Cris Weatherford attended his first Board of Directors meeting since joining the DSS in August on Tuesday night. “I’ve been settling in,” Weatherford said.
