Black Knights stymied by Bulldogs

Robbinsville – Squandered opportunities. That’s the biggest takeaway from Robbinsville’s junior varsity loss to Murphy on Sept. 23. The Knights were deep in Bulldogs territory on several occasions, but were unable to cash in and ultimately fell 22-0.

Lady Knights back in win column; sweep Devils

Bryson City – As make-ups continue to force Robbinsville into an unusual schedule, the Lady Knights ran into their first speed bumps of the season last week.

Black Knights win opener in convincing fashion

Robbinsville – After several delays, the Black Knights’ junior varsity team finally got its 2021 football season started Sept. 16. As is custom, Robbinsville put the entire Smoky Mountain Conference on notice.

“The Ville” set to host conference tournament

Robbinsville – The "Battle of the Knights" went to the visitors. Unfortunately, Robbinsville was the host. The Black Knights (16-4) dropped their only match of the week June 3, a 39-28 dual to North Henderson.

Jaymz Brett Jones, 26 of Murphy, N.C., whose Cherokee name is “Ganuteyo” (meaning Rope Twister) passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, at his residence. Brett was the son of Carrie Smith of Murphy, N.C. and Bud and Tracy Jones of Robbinsville, N.C.

Knights split home slate

Robbinsville – Entering Tuesday’s game against Murphy, the Black Knights had lofty expectations. And why not? Robbinsville (4-5, 4-5) was coming off a redeeming, 7-1 victory over Hiwassee Dam (1-7, 1-7) on Friday and had won four of its last five.

Knights drop first two games

Murphy – For a moment, Robbinsville was in the driver’s seat. Starting pitcher Jeb Shuler led off the Knights’ road game Saturday against Murphy with a solo homer over the left-field fence, giving Robbinsville a boost of momentum before the defense even took the field.

Robbinsville – Nine of the last 10 Western Regional championships in the state 1A classification have been split between Robbinsville and Murphy. This Friday night, that statistic will increase to 10 of 11.

Robbinsville – Anyone who expected another slugfest between Robbinsville and Murphy on Tuesday were left disappointed.  That is, unless you’re a Lady Knights fan.
