Golf season ends at regional tournament

Rutherfordton – Robbinsville's varsity golf season concluded at May 5's 1A Western Regional Tournament, which was held at Rutherfordton's Meadowbrook Golf Course.Avery Brown missed qualifying for the state championship match by one stroke, placing 15th overall after shooting a 91.

Lion-hearted golfer makes school history

Robbinsville – Isaiah Brown was born into a golfing family. Prior to this year's title, his father Jeremy was on the last Black Knights team that won the Smoky Mountain Conference in 2000; his grandfather Jody joins Jeremy as an assistant coach on Robbinsville's current boys golf program.

Black Knights fall late at regionals

Huntersville – Coming off a solid practice round, Robbinsville was in second place with just six holes left to go at May 5's Western Regional meet.

Swinging for state

Hayesville – A 25-year gap in divisional championships found itself buried in the sand bunker Monday. In a commanding 46-stroke victory, Robbinsville captured its first Smoky Mountain Conference golf title since 2000 by shooting a 721 over the course of the two-day league tournament.

Eye on the prize

Hayesville – For the second year in a row, Robbinsville’s No. 1 golfer will be lugging his clubs to the state tournament. Isaiah Brown turned in a round of 78 at Monday’s N.C.
The Black Knights had not won a round of golf against the Murphy Bulldogs since Robbinsville’s last conference title in 2000. That changed Monday, with the team slicing by Murphy in the second round of the annual divisional tournament. Cashiers – From the edge of the green, Isaiah Brown chipped a birdie shot clean into Hole No. 9 at Old Edwards Club. It was all over for the rest of the field from there.
