Cornelia Paula Heusel Sutter

Cornelia (Connie) Paula Heusel Sutter, 74, passed away on June 22, 2022 at her home, after a courageous second battle with cancer. Born in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 3, 1947, Connie spent her younger years in the Virginia Beach area, followed by some time in Vicksburg, Miss.

Anniversary celebration planning gains momentum

Robbinsville – Plans are starting to come together for a mid-August celebration of Graham County’s 150th anniversary. Marshall McClung – a Forest Service retiree, with expertise in search and rescue – has been named grand marshal for the celebration.

Efforts continue to save Cable Cove Campground

Robbinsville – Graham County Travel & Tourism has been working to reopen Cable Cove Campground, which the National Forest Service has left shuttered because of low usage, deteriorated facilities, flooding vulnerability and lack of electrical power.

New Fontana ORC appointed

Fontana Dam – A local municipality hopes to finally put the kibosh on heavy overturn at its water plant. The Town of Fontana Dam appointed Carrie Stewart as its new ORC (operator-in-responsible charge) in an unanimous council vote at its April 20 meeting.

Board seeks ways to save Cable Cove Campground

Fontana Dam – Members of the Graham County Travel & Tourism board discussed ways to rescue Cable Cove Campground from closure. The U.S. Forest Service won’t reopen the 26-space campground, but a nearby boat ramp will remain open.

New members appointed to Fontana Dam council

Fontana Dam – Graham County’s smallest municipality is once again being governed by a full council. Two new members were appointed and sworn in at the Town of Fontana Dam council meeting, bringing the council up to five seats once again, including Mayor Rob Hardy.
Three volunteers in the annual Fontana Lakeshore Cleanup haul garbage aboard their vessel. The event was held from Friday-Sunday and removed more than 170,000 pounds of trash from the lake.

Fontana Dam – Those exploring and enjoying Fontana Lake may notice how immaculate the body of water now is, following the fourth annual Fontana Lakeshore Cleanup, which was held Friday-Sunday. Approximately 45 people per day participated, with many being boat owners.
