Fontana – There was a fatal traffic accident on N.C. 28, as a vehicle spun out of control, left the roadway, went down a steep embankment and plunged into Cheoah Lake on Saturday.

Robbinsville – Finally. Entering Tuesday’s home game against Cherokee, the Robbinsville varsity baseball team was winless. In 5-of-their-first-6 games, the Black Knights had lost by eight or more runs and opponents had outscored Robbinsville 84-15.

Bryson City – Robbinsville’s pursuit of the program’s second dual-team, state-wrestling championship came to a gut-wrenching conclusion Feb. 1 at Swain County High School. Entering the postseason with the No. 1 seed, Robbinsville (29-4) faced a fired-up Swain County (No.
