Group working to improve county’s digital access

West Fort Hill – The Southwest Commission is researching ways to improve rural internet access – with Dogwood Health Trust grant money available – and is conducting scoping meetings to identify specific needs in North Carolina’s westernmost counties including Graham County.

Robbinsville – With the May primaries finally in the rearview mirror, local candidates are shifting their focus to the general election. It took a second primary for the Graham County GOP to learn who would represent its party in the race for sheriff.

Settlement reached in land company lawsuit

Tallulah – Two key executives at Graham County Land Company reached settlement agreements with a lender that claimed to be owed millions of dollars by the bankrupted company, and all claims were dismissed against a third company officer.

Butch Burrell

Butch Burrell, 56 of the Moose Branch community in Robbinsville, N.C., passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at his residence. He was the son of the late John and Ellen Bridges Burrell.

Dayton William Burchfield

Dayton William Burchfield, 89 of Oak Ridge, Tenn., passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at his residence. He was a native of Graham County, and the son of the late William Burton Burchfield and Maggie Sue Farley Burchfield.

Alice Brown Lewis

Alice Brown Lewis, 70 of the Snowbird community in Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2022, surrounded by her family and friends. A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Annie Conseen Brown. She was a member of the Church of the Lamb.

Slickrock Rescue ends after 18 hours

Getting an injured person out of the woods is never an easy task. This is especially true of the Slickrock area of Graham County. Around 7:23 p.m. July 20, Graham County 911 received a call about a hiker with a fractured ankle, who had been injured six hours earlier.

Reach opens Graham County office

Robbinsville – More help for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault is now available in Graham County. The Cherokee County-based Reach organization has opened an office in Robbinsville, inside the Liberty Missionary Church (300 Five Points Road, Suite 2).
