Voters make their voices heard

Fontana Dam, Lake Santeetlah select mayors, councils

Voters in both the Town of Fontana Dam and the Town of Lake Santeetlah were scarcely found during Tuesday’s mayoral and council elections.

By far and away, Lake Santeetlah had the highest response, with a total of 19 ballots being cast out of the 37 active registered voters.

Write-in candidate Diana Simon received the most votes – collecting 16 – which should mean her appointment as new Mayor of Lake Santeetlah. Simon received eight votes on election day, seven through one-stop (early) voting and one absentee vote.

Incumbent mayor Jim Hager and councilman Roger Carlton had 15 nods of approval, while Keith Predmore and Craig Keith received 14 votes each.

A mere three voters turned out for Fontana Dam’s election, with mayor Robert Hardy, plus council members Jordan Hedrick and Tracy Williams getting three votes each.

Council candidate Madisyn Belanger received zero votes.

No absentee or one-stop votes were cast in Fontana Dam.
