Hiker trails off path, later found

Deep Creek – A lost hiker was located after a brief search Oct. 30. Sarah Schuster, 38, had gone on a hike alone into the Deep Creek area of Graham County from a trailhead parking area on Maple Springs Road. On her return, she got off the trail and became lost.

Council members squabble over debit card

Lake Santeetlah – Funding for the town’s tourism authority was ended after the town council voted to discontinue charging a bed tax to lodging providers in the town, but the authority has been using unspent funds on a beautification project at the entrance to the town. During the Nov.

Robbinsville – If that was the final home game of the season, what a way to go out. The Black Knights peppered 39 points across the first three quarters of the Nov. 10 playoff affair against Cherokee, clinching a Sweet 16 berth by knocking off the divisional rival 39-12 under the Big Oaks.

Former deputy pleads guilty to child rape

Robbinsville – A former Graham County sheriff’s deputy pleaded guilty to child-rape charges, after a lunchtime plea deal on the day his case was scheduled to go to trial saved him from a possible life sentence.

Robbinsville – Robbinsville High School and Middle School students paid tribute to veterans Nov. 10, during a special ceremony in the school’s gymnasium.

Robbinsville – A pair of Black Knight seniors were recently awarded for their academic and athletic endeavors. Brock Adams and Kensley Phillips were selected last week as Robbinsville’s 2022 Heisman High School Scholarship recipients.
