Daniel Garnet Roach, 73, of the Slay Bacon Road community of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville, N.C. He was a native of Clay County, and the son of the late Charles Van- Buren Roach and Hattie Emmaline Leatherwood Roach. Daniel was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was inducted into the service in January 1966, serving as a military policeman in Germany. After receiving a National Defense Service medal, he was discharged to the Army Reserves until January 1972. He was baptized in the Southern Baptist faith, and he loved gospel bluegrass music.
Daniel was also a selftaught musician and was able to play any type of stringed instrument. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing, the Atlanta Braves and all football, from high school to professional teams. He was a friendly, kind and genuine person whom had many friends. He was well loved by those who knew him, but most of all Daniel was dedicated to his family and his Lord and Savior. He loved both dearly, and his family is extremely thankful for having their Lord and Savior bless them with Daniel in their lives.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Vee Denton Roach; sons and their wives, Josh Roach of Robbinsville, N.C., Zack and Janie Edwards of Georgia, Gabe and Ally Edwards of S.C.; brother, Samuel Roach of Hayesville, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Frank Dills Jr. of Hayesville, N.C.; grandchildren, Blade, Tatum, and Avery Roach, Samantha and Peter Blaine Edwards and Charlie Edwards which is on the way. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at the Townson-Smith Chapel. The Rev. Patrick Odell and his son, Zack Edwards, officiated. Burial followed the service at Old Mother Cemetery. The family received friends from 4-5 p.m. Saturday at the chapel prior to the service.
