Emmett Phillips
Emmett R. Phillips, 81, of the Franks Creek Community in Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019 at his residence.
A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Henry and Ethel Roberts Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rebecca Phillips, his brother, Herbert Phillips, and his sisters, Jessie Mae Grindstaff, Bunavee Carpenter, Alowayne Smith and Patty Sue Phillips.
Emmett was a U.S. Veteran having served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy from 1956 - 1962. He was a member of Sweetgum Baptist Church.
Emmett is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Laura Carpenter; his sons and daughters-inlaw, Kenny Phillips and Mitch and Phyllis Phillips, all of Robbinsville, N.C.; his daughters and sons in law, Amy and Butch Collins, and Rachel “DeeDee” and Jerry Phillips, all of Robbinsville, N.C.; his daughter in law, Meshell Phillips, of Robbinsville, N.C.; his brothers, Alvin Phillips, Don Phillips, and James Phillips; and his sisters, Ann Keith and Edna Cox. His grandchildren are Kristy Claytor, Jasmine Picon, Jake Phillips, Lance Collins, Kayla Adams and Kasondra Lovelace. He has 10 great-grandchildren, Maggie Shepherd, Isaac Picon, Chris Claytor, Cruz Claytor, Kolbi Woods, Haylen Lovelace, Jensen Lovelace, M’Kinzey Adams, Robert Lee Adams, and Ashley Adams, and 2 great-great grandchildren, Cambri Shepherd and Mila Shepherd.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019 at the Townson-Smith Chapel. Revs. Patrick O’Dell and Kenny Ball officiated. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel, prior to the service. Committal services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 at the Grindstaff Cemetery on Franks Creek Road where military rites were conducted by Eller - Rogers American Legion Post 192 and Carringer - Webster VFW Post 8635.
