James W. Lewis, 86 of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away at the Graham Healthcare Facility on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garfield and Lola Lovin Lewis; his brothers, Delmas Lewis, Doyle Lewis and Alvin “Hardwood” Lewis; and an infant sister, Marie Lewis.

James was a logger most of his life, working in the mountains of western North Carolina. He was a longtime member of the Graham County Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Department, devoting much of his time to helping those in need in our community.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, NASCAR races, Black Knights football, and spending time with family and friends.

James is survived by his son, Jim Lewis and wife Susie of Gastonia, N.C.; his daughters, Susie Walsh and husband, Dale, and Marg Lewis, all of Robbinsville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Issac Lewis of Raleigh, N.C., Kenan Walsh of Rock Hill, S.C., and Casey McClure and husband Justin of Mount Holly, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Blakelee McClure and Cash McClure; special friends, Eddie Richard and Dede Brooms, Jan and Ann Pangle; and more grandchildren that he loved dearly, Daylee Hayes, Eddie and Delaney Brooms of Robbinsville, N.C.; and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, in the field adjacent to Townson-Smith Funeral Home. The Revs. Mickey Stewart and Jack Millsaps officiated.  

The family receivedfriends from 2-3 p.m., prior to the service. 

Burial followed at New Hope Cemetery.
