Matthew Stan Miller, 40 of the Beech Creek community of Robbinsville, N.C., passed away, Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, in a house fire, after saving his mother and niece while attempting to rescue their beloved dog Scrappy.

He was a native of Dekalb County, Ga., and the son of Leslie Miles Duncan and the late Henry Duncan.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tanya Nations Miller of Young Harris, Ga.; daughters, Makayla Bouchard of Young Harris, Ga., Summer Nations of Clayton, Ga. and Brianna Pickelsimer of El Paso, Texas; brother, Chris Duncan of Robbinsville, N.C.; niece, Aerilaya Duncan; grandmother, Gwen Miles of Robbinsville, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Asher Carver, and Alyssa Hardiman.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022 at Buffalo Independent Baptist Church.

The Rev. Jack Easter officiated.
