Mike Lewis, 54, of the Atoah Community in Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., after a long battle with diabetes.

Mike was a native of Graham County and the son of Nettie Jean Eller Lewis of Robbinsville, N.C. and the late Alvin “Hardwood” Lewis. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Melanie Lewis; and his brothers, Marty Lewis, Darrin Lewis and Mark Lewis.

Mike loved to “tinker” with things as a kid, which led to him having the ability to fix almost anything. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment mechanic. He had a quick wit and loved a good joke or funny story. He grew up hunting and fishing and enjoyed being in the woods. Mike loved to be able to help people and was a member of the Graham County Rescue Squad and the Snowbird Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Nathan Lewis of Robbinsville, N.C.; his sisters and brothers in law, Pam and Kyle Williams of Stecoah, and Misty and Larry Hembree of Robbinsville, N.C.; and his brother and sister in law, Andy and Donna Lewis of Robbinsville, N.C. He has several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at the Townson-Smith Chapel. Revs. Daniel Stewart, Coy Adams and Patrick O’Dell officiated. Burial followed at Carver Cemetery.  The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel, prior to the services.
