Morris Cook

Morris Cook, 79 of the Sweetgum community in Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., after a short illness.  

A native of Graham County, he was the son of the late Austin and Winnie Ledbetter Cook.

Cook was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country proudly during the Vietnam War.  He loved working with wood; if he could imagine it, he could make it. He spent many hours carving and working with a scroll-saw. 

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 52 years, Carol Crisp Cook; his daughter, Dana Cook (Joe Thomas), of Robbinsville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Kasi Cook, and Kody Cook (Mandy Messer); his great-grandson, Alex Cook and his sister, Geraldine Trull of Phoenix, Ark. He has several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 at the Townson-Smith Funeral Home.  Revs. Larry Icenhower and Daniel Stewart officiated. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Chapel, prior to the service. 

Committal services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 at Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery where Military Rites were conducted by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard.
