* An open house for the new Tallulah Valley Country Club was set to be held. The par-72, championship course was built under the direction of Graham County Industrial Authority and bordered by an 80-lot subdivision. Industrial authority member Robert Moseley revealed that roughly 20 percent of the 230-acre tract was donated, with other funding coming from timber and lot sales. Set to provide 15 jobs, the course hoped to increase the county's annual tax base by $100,000. Update: The course later closed.

* Accurately dubbed as a "two-car, one-horse accident," Graham County Trooper Buck Boyles was dispatched to investigate a crash that occurred near Stecoah. A horse ran in front of a 1963 Chevrolet, which was being operated by Gastonia resident Clyde Taylor. The subsequent collision propelled the equine 525 feet and into the path of a 1964 Pontiac, being driven by Topton resident Ronald Trent Douthit. A passenger in the Pontiac, Vivian Grant, was injured in the accident and taken to an area hospital.
