* Though the findings were not released, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation completed an investigation of Graham County Schools, which launched after a complaint was mailed to attorney general Lacy Thornburg and alleged that payroll records had been falsified and state funds had been misappropriated. The assignment of an assistant principal to a dual role as a guidance principal allegedly led to the complaint being filed. "…It's sad because a letter like this discredits the county, embarrasses the school personnel and certainly doesn't help the students of Graham County," superintendent Lowell Crisp said. "If anyone had a concern about our schools, I welcome them to my office anytime. A telephone call to the Department of Public Instruction could have cleared up the matter promptly."

* By an 11-7 vote, Doug Edwards was selected to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Democratic school board member Cecil Rogers. Edwards was set to be sworn in at the upcoming meeting, ending a hectic month for the party that included the executive committee and the chair being unable to get on the same page about scheduling a meeting to appoint the replacement.

* The Star's Easter Babies were announced. Katie Stewart was the one-year-old daughter of Brenda and Lonnie Stewart; while Shaun Edward Williams, 13 months old, was the son of Sheila Williams

* A "heavy ballot" was touted after the local filing period closed for the 1980 election. The only race in the primary was for three seats on the Graham County Board of Education. Seven Democrats – Wilma Millsaps, Donald Gregory, incumbent Gerald Phillips, Harold C. Rogers, Thomas P. Garden, Lamar Crisp and Eugene Hooper – were in the running, as were Republicans Ralph Jenkins, Wallace D. Jenkins and Warner Deyton. The remainder of the packed ballot was filled out with state-level contests.
