* Two separate motor vehicle accidents occurred on the same day off Big Santeetlah Road. A Ford Ranger pickup operated by James S. Millsaps of Robbinsville pulled off the main road, only to lose his vehicle down a 500-foot bank on Bob Creek Hill. Millsaps had gotten out of his parked vehicle to check to see why his car was spinning. The truck began sliding, knocked Millsaps down, injuring his wrist and back. Later, two vehicles collided near the Santeetlah hunter shelter. A Ford pickup operated by Jim Allen Bird of Robbinsville collided with a Mercury operated by Gloria S. Adams, also of Robbinsville. No injuries occurred, but Bird was charged with failure to decrease speed to avoid an accident.
* Two were injured in two separate bike accidents on the Tsali horse trail. The accidents were within 30 minutes of each other. Carolyn Vess of Newton, Mass., was thrown from her bike and transported to Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva. She suffered a broken collarbone. Javier Prado of Madrid, Spain was injured in the second bike accident, when he struck a large pole and was thrown over the handlebars. After being checked out by Transylvania Hospital in Brevard, he was reported to have minor cuts and bruises on his knees and forearm.

* The board of education approved personnel for the 1985-86 school year. Substitute teachers were unanimously approved at all schools. The board also unanimously agreed to raise the cost of lunches, considering that there has not been one in four years. Update: Today, district students enjoy cost-free lunches.
Aug. 8, 1975
* Frank Rose Jr., owner of Townson Funeral Homes, Inc. announced the sale of the Graham County facility to Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Smith of Robbinsville. Wallace had worked with Townson Funeral Home for several years and would serve as president of the facility, while Ruth Shuler Smith would serve as secretary/treasurer. The Graham County branch was acquired to place resources in Cherokee and Clay counties. A new funeral home would be constructed on the land adjacent to the Old Mother Church Cemetery. Update: The funeral home is still located next to Old Mother Church Cemetery today.
* According to mayor Dale Laughter, the town water shortage was critical. The water level was the lowest it had ever been in his administration. Laughter asked all residents of Robbinsville, Milltown, Long Creek, Fort Hill and Tallulah to cooperate by conserving water while this situation existed.
