* Stewart Buchanan received the first ride on the new Graham County Courthouse elevator, as part of a dedication ceremony. Rep. Jeff Enloe was shown assisting Buchanan in accessing the elevator, which was built after Enloe advocated for a $28,000 appropriation in 1984 and another $12,000 in 1985. No county money was used in the construction of the elevator, but the funding was specifically designated for building an elevator in the courthouse.
* Enloe's visit also included a visit to Graham County Schools. The 1985 State General Assembly included a $40,000 line item to furnish school flags for each institution across North Carolina. Enloe presented Graham County Schools Superintendent Lowell Crisp with the flags. Seventh-grade teacher Opal Long was also shown standing with students Donovan Underwood, Joe Moody, Mark Corbin and Troy Grindstaff, who would each be responsible for raising and lowering the flags on every school day – no matter the weather – at Robbinsville Elementary and High schools, as well as Stecoah School.

* The Graham County 4-H Council elected its 1976 officers. Receiving front-and-center billing on The Star's front page were president Karen Taylor; vice president Darlene Lequire; reporter Jimmy Hyde; and recreation chairman Darrell Huffman. Secretary-treasurer Denise Shope was not present for the photo.
* Fontana Village's Lillian and Bill Geissler were spotlighted for the work they performed at the resort. After moving to Fontana in 1975, Lillian had taken a role as a nurse and Bill was capturing memories as a photographer.

* The county received a $58,000 allocation to improve secondary roads from the state highway commission. Included in the project was a 1.8-mile stretch of Franks Creek Road – which was set to be graded, drained and paved – as well as a 0.4-mile strip of Squirrel Cove Road, from Anthony Branch Road to its dead end. Squirrel Cove was scheduled to be graded, drained and received a fresh load of gravel.
* The famed Wells Fargo truck was caught on-camera by Graham Star editor Stella Sawyer, rolling through Robbinsville en route to the local Wachovia Bank.
