May 15, 1986

* Stecoah School was part of a pilot project that was decades ahead of its time. The school was 1-of-3 in the state selected to receive a satellite dish that would provide access to three courses, which would be taught via satellite from Appalachian State University in Boone. 

* Janie Carpenter Haney was awarded the Hu-Friday award from Asheville Buncombe Technical Institute. The award was given annually to the top dental-hygiene student graduating from the school. 

May 15, 1980

* Edward Anderson was set to return to his hometown to open a new law office. A 1968 graduate of Robbinsville High School, Anderson obtained a degree in business administration from Western Carolina University and had just graduated from the UNC School of Law with his doctorate four days prior to the publication of this issue.

May 15, 1970

* A Black Mountain man was killed in a logging accident in the Santeetlah community. According to reports, 56-year-old John G. Hutchins was cutting a tree when a limb fell and fatally struck him on the head. 

* Snowbird Supply Company was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Smith, as well as Mr. and Mrs. James McGuire. Dubbed "The Shopping Center of Graham County," the store was first opened in 1926.
