* Support was overwhelming for Graham County Schools Superintendent Lowell Crisp, as the public and board of education alike both questioned the origin of rumors that the board wanted to fire Crisp at a meeting. Ultimately, the gossip was dismissed as fiction and the board moved onto more important matters.
* The Town of Robbinsville Board of Aldermen remained unchanged after the Nov. 5 municipal election. Board members Huel Smith (259 votes), Kenneth Carver (208) and Eugene Rose (200) were each re-elected by residents. Other candidates were Jean Buchanan (114), Mildred McClung (85) and Larry Adams (80). Mayor Frank Rodgers retained his seat, beating challenger Earl Max Owens 244-135.

* Ten years prior to seats going unchanged, the town board was completely flipped in the Nov. 4 election. Huel Smith began his service as an alderman by obtaining 268 votes, while Kenneth Carver was also voted into service with 233. Frank D. Holder grabbed the third seat, with an even 200 votes. Incumbents were Ray Phillips (190) and Charlie Riddle (169). F.O. Colvard toppled sitting mayor William Dale Laughter, 191-168. Another mayoral candidate was Richard Lofty, who received 24 nods.
* The famed Fontana Ramblers took third place at the North Carolina State Fair competition in Raleigh. Doyle Barker (guitar) and Vance Trull (fiddle) each finished second in their field of expertise, while Johnny Hensley (mandolin) placed fourth. The band was also joined by Mike Riddle on electric bass.
Nov. 7, 1969
* Just two weeks after J. Boyd Crisp was killed in an airplane crash, Gov. Bob Scott appointed another Graham County resident to serve as the North Carolina Highway Commissioner for the 14th district. W. Ted Phillips was sworn in to his new role at the governor’s office in Raleigh.
* U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. David L. Brown received the Bronze Star Medal at Cam Ranh Bay, AB in Vietnam, for what was described as “meritorious service” in the field of battle against Viet Cong forces. Brown was a graduate of Robbinsville High School.
