* A woman was reportedly sexually assaulted after stopping to help a motorist who was seemingly broken down near the Sweetwater Road dumpsters. A man allegedly asked the woman for jumper cables, then assaulted her. The victim was not a resident of Graham County and authorities were searching for a vehicle with a matching description.
* Yacco was set to report for duty with the Graham County Sheriff’s Office. A 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, Yacco was hired by the office to detect all type of narcotics, after completing an education course at Tarheel Canine Training, Inc., in Sanford. Deputy Billy Orr was assigned to be Yacco’s handler.

* Graham County entered into a long-term agreement for the Graham County Council of the Performing Arts to lease a pavilion. The 10-year deal would cost the council $1 per year.
* The Black Knights Marching Band swept the “Best Band in the Class” at the Exhibition of Pride Festival in Elkin. Individual, first-place awards went to Barbie Stewart, Drum Major; Julie Burchfield, Susan Crowe, Traci Dutcher and Amber Hooper, Majorettes; Wendy Anderson, Karen England, Erica Millsaps, Karen Moody, Jennifer Mercer and Holona Crisp, Flags; and the Horn Line.

* Rachael Davis was named the Robbinsville High School Homecoming Queen. Debra Long finished as runner-up, while Christy McMonigle was second runner-up.
* Graham County Sheriff Deputy Richard Lofty was ambushed after receiving a call about an individual lying in the middle of U.S. Highway 129, near Santeetlah Dam. Upon arriving at the overlook, shots were fired and three hit Lofty’s patrol car. Around 25 officers from surrounding agencies responded searching for the person responsible.
