Oct. 3, 1991

* Crystal Medlin was named the Robbinsville High School Class of 1991 Homecoming Queen. First runner-up was Sabrina Glover and second runner-up went to Brooke Corbin. Update: Today, Crystal Medlin White is known as a popular math teacher at Robbinsville High.

* County and civic leaders alike met to discuss the possibility of selling the site of the Stanley Furniture Plant. Stanley Furniture even said it would be willing to vacate the property in the event that a new vendor wanted to occupy the facility. Update: Stanley stayed put until Oak Valley Hardwoods took over in the 2010s, then closed in May 2019. Local officials continue to search for a new business to resurrect the site.

Oct. 3, 1985

* Former Robbinsville resident Lynda Palmer had a song recorded by Nashville artist Scarlett. The untitled single was produced in the studio of Franklin Lynch and Tony Carpenter, in Georgia. Palmer attended Mountain View School and at the time, lived in Buckhead, Ga., with her husband Joe. Update: Sadly, the Star could not find any further information about this song.

* The Black Knight Marching Band made a splash at Enka’s Land of the Sky Marching Festival, earning an “Excellent” rating. Charla Stiles also received second place in the drum major category – the first time a Robbinsville band member had ever placed in the race.

Oct. 3, 1969

* A Ham Shoot was scheduled to be held at the Massey Branch Rock Quarry. A new Remington shotgun was due to be given away as part of a raffle. Proceeds raised were set to be given to the Graham County Rescue Squad, to purchase equipment.

* Green’s Foodway made today’s readers envious over 1969 prices for goods. Of note, a t-bone porterhouse steak would set you back 97 cents a pound; three pounds of ground beef was $1.77; VO-5 hair spray was $1.19; and a three-pound can of JFG coffee could be yours for $2.19. Update: Green’s Foodway was located at the end of the same shopping plaza where The Graham Star can be found today.
