Around 10:30 p.m., a combination of the rescue squad members and fellow hikers found Stevens in good condition, after she had walked 12 miles.

* The Black Knights returned home from Andrews’ Hugh Hamilton Stadium with a 34-13 win. Brian Gross ran for three touchdowns and passed for another one. There were 12 fumbles on the rain-soaked field, including six by the Knights – but Robbinsville only lost the ball once.

* After more than three years of hard work, federal and state grants were approved for the expansion of Robbinsville’s sewer plant. Robbinsville Mayor Frank Rodgers said that the expansion would increase the plant’s capacity from 130,000 gallons a day to about 600,000 gallons a day. The state funded $140,000 of the project, as well as the Appalachian Regional Commission.

* Dana Dockery set the tone for the Black Knights’ opening game against Swain County, by taking the opening kickoff 92 yards for the first score. Quarterback Charles Edwards later completed a 90-yard touchdown pass to Darrin Self, making the final score 18-7.

* Robbinsville stopped the Murphy Bulldogs 16-8, in its opening game of the season. Dale Walsh started the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
