Star brings home 6 state awards

Tallulah – The N.C. Press Association announced its 2019-20 editorial contest winners Friday, with The Graham Star winning in six different categories. The Star’s successes were equally split between first-place and third-place honors.
Family, friends and colleagues alike surprised departing Graham County Register of Deeds Carolyn Stewart with a retirement party Friday. Stewart worked in the office for 29 ½ years.

Her Deed is done

Robbinsville – "You just sort of know when it's time to move on." Carolyn Stewart joined the ranks of Graham County's Register of Deeds office in 1987 and was elected to the head position in 1998, a post she has held without interruption since.

Back at work

Robbinsville – They scored early and they scored often. In the end, the Robbinsville Black Knights began their quest to successful defend the 1A state title with a 56-6 victory over Rosman.  The game ended a 14-month layoff for Robbinsville football, which had last suited up Dec.

Knights drop finale to Bulldogs

Murphy – Heading into the Feb. 18 regular-season finale, Robbinsville needed a win to stay in the playoff race. However, the Black Knights (8-6, 6-6) fell behind early on the road at Murphy and were unable to bounce back, dropping a 64-54 affair to the Bulldogs.

And ... on to Round 2!

Robbinsville – Two Lady Knights hit 10 3’s. The defense took care of the rest. Robbinsville (14-1, No. 8 seed) trounced the visiting Chatham Charter (8-3, No. 9) Lady Knights 78-41, thanks largely to a 33-point game from Desta Trammell and a 15-point night by Kensley Phillips, both sophomores.
