Brush fire threatens home

Robbinsville – Firefighters with the Graham County Fire Department, N.C. Forest Service and U.S. Forest Service responded to an out-of-control brush fire on Dillard Orr Road around 6:20 p.m. Nov. 29.

’Tis the season of giving … tree

Robbinsville – The Graham County Public Library is bringing holiday cheer with the annual Giving Tree. Near the entrance of the library is a green Christmas tree filled with ornaments – not bulbs or snowflakes, but slips of paper, with gifts listed for Graham County senior citizens.

It’s all in a day’s work

Raleigh – North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sgt. Rocky R. Deitz joined troopers Jonathan “Ty” Gibbs and Trooper Johnathan R. Jones in receiving the Samaritan Group Award on Nov. 22, recognizing them for extraordinary acts of bravery and public service. The awards ceremony took place at the N.C.

Williams decreed Grand Marshal for Christmas parade

Robbinsville – A homegrown realtor is the grand marshal for the Robbinsville Christmas Parade on Saturday. Southland Realty’s Maxine Williams has been afforded this year’s duty as grand marshal of the annual extravaganza, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday.

New REVVED UP director ready for input

Robbinsville – Meet the new REVVED UP executive director, Destri Leger who is ready to contribute to improving the community – including the upcoming Christmas window display contest Friday, Dec. 8.

Bill would move memorial

U.S Congressman Chuck Edwards (R-Hendersonville) recently introduced a bill to the House of Representatives to relocate a memorial to the Cherohala Skyway in Graham County, to honor the nine Air Force crew members who lost their lives in the Amore 66 plane crash.

Council assault case continued

Robbinsville – Lake Santeetlah council members arrived Monday to Graham County court for an assault case – ready for a trial – but left instead with a continuance to Jan. 29, 2024.

Internet upgrades planned for town

Fontana Dam – Graham Revitalization Economic Action Team’s quarterly meeting Nov. 16 provided insight on some planned internet upgrades. “GREAT exists because of community,” said GREAT Director Michelle Shiplet. “GREAT exists for community, so we want community to be a part of what we do.
