Four Square receives grant for housing aid

Sylva – Four Square Community Action is a 2022 recipient of a combined $120,000 from the Southwestern HOME Consortium. The Home Investment Partnerships Programs consortium awarded a total of $850,000 to four projects in the region that will construct, enhance or assist in housing citizens.

Jenkins, Wiggins receive new court dates

Robbinsville – A pair of prominent cases received some attention during Monday’s district-court calendar. Among the many defendants present were John Mark Jenkins, 54, of Robbinsville and William Lon Wiggins, 21, of Provo, Utah. Jenkins had his court date changed to Monday, Dec.

Suspected meth found near daycare

Robbinsville – Another search warrant was recently executed inside the Cheoah Mobile Home Park on Ford Street. The Graham County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit raided a home at the back of the park July 28. Three arrests were made that night, but a return visit Sept.

Grades hold steady for district

Robbinsville – The Graham County Board of Education learned about the district’s growth at Tuesday’s meeting. Graham County Schools Accountability Director Kevin White presented the growth and proficiency test rates of Graham County Schools midway through the assembly.

Wildfire tamed on Fontana Lake

Fontana Dam – A 10-acre forest fire on Fontana Lake is now contained. The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. Sept. 26, near backcountry campsite 87 on Fontana Lake. The campsite is located on the peninsula closet to the Fontana Dam.
