Vance M. Hedrick, 82, went to his Heavenly home Thursday, April 21, 2022, surrounded by much of his family.

Vance was born and raised in Graham County, N.C. and he retired from Stanley Furniture.

Vance was an integral member of the community and dedicated much of his time doing things for others.

He was married to beloved wife, Betty, for 32 years.

He was a devoted and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In his final months, he enjoyed spending time with his newest great granddaughter, Adelaide.

Vance was a faithful member of Grape Creek Baptist Church for over 30 years. He was the best example of the Christian faith and though he will be missed, there is no doubt he is rejoicing with his Savior.

He was the son of the late Rev. Leslie and Anna Bell Millsaps Hedrick. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by three sisters: Christine Hooper, Nellie Stewart, and Edna Jiovnetta; and two brothers, Chucky and Chad Hedrick.

Surviving are his wife, Betty McLeymore Hedrick; five children, Lamar Hedrick and wife Karen of Robbinsville, N.C., Tab Hedrick and wife Jennifer of Salem, S.C., Rebecca Haigler Garrett and husband Max, Victor Haigler and wife Hazel, Phillip Haigler and wife Mariam, all of Murphy, N.C.; one sister, Ruth Adams of Robbinsville, N.C.; two brothers, Vernon Hedrick of Gardendale, Ala., and Leonard Hedrick and wife Ruth of Blairsville, Ga.; 19 grandchildren, Casey McClure and Justin, Jordan Farley and Heath, Summer Crowe and Joseph, Noah Hedrick, Samantha Hedrick, Landon, Chandler and Parker Gosnell, Savannah and Luke Garrett, Michelle Sneed, Racheal Brown and Bruce, Charlotte and Iva Jane Haigler, Maria and Hilario Avancena, Jessica Ebersohl and Kenton, Natasha Brooks and Justin, and Jeremy Beasley; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, N.C.

The Revs. Steve West and Mickey Stewart officiated.

Music was provided by Renee Carroll.

The interment was in the Grape Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jeff Graves officiating.

Pallbearers were Victor Haigler, Phillip Haigler, Max Garrett, Noah Hedrick, Luke Garrett, Wyatt Hyde, Jason Carroll and Tony Curtis.

Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Shuler, Larry Davis, Jerry Johnson and Danny Carroll.

The family received friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Sunday, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home.
