Old Frank's Creek homesites visited

Recently, Hoot Gibbs and I visited some old homesites in the Frank’s Creek area.   Looking for old homesites in the woods is one of our favorite things to do. Much research of old land papers by Hoot – with the assistance of the Graham County Register of Deeds – helps greatly.

Feed faith, starve fear

An outsider's take on prohibition

I never was much of a drinker.  Aside from a bad semester or two early in my college years, I never allowed drinking to become a habit. Even at my college worst, I only drank once per week.

Do pets go to heaven?

Atoah once had "racket" going

Yes, quite true, the Atoah community once had a “racket” going.   The reader may immediately wonder what type of racket, short for racketeering meaning involvement in illegal business activities. This racket went on for years, was never busted by the law, no arrests or charges ever made.

We are a democracy ... in practice

At age 72, most of my pleasures are small and getting smaller. One of them is to sit down in a comfortable chair on Thursday afternoon and read The Graham Star.
